In 1980, after having completed a masters program in special needs, Jane decided to take a calligraphy class to wind down from the pressure.  Little did she know how she would become hooked and mesmerized by the meditative practice of the letterforms, which combined a fascination for ancient history and love of words and letters. Four years later she left the field of special education and began her own business as a professional freelance calligrapher. In 2024 she celebrated 35 years as a Main Street business with an expanded studio/gallery space.

She considers herself fortunate to have been able to study the art of lettering for over 30 years, with instructors for all over the world. She spent many years focusing on the refinement of historic and traditional letterforms, which form a strong basis from which to develop more a contemporary and gestural look. Lately, her work has combined the gestural lines with traditional lettering forms. She enjoys experimenting with unconventional lettering tools and mediums which allow for more freedom of expression while creating layers of texture and complexity. Her artwork has appeared in various international juried publications and she has exhibited throughout the New England area. In 2018 her work was accepted for publication in the annual Letter Arts Review, a compilation of juried artwork from all over the world.

She is one of four founding members of West Bay Open Studios and is a member and past president of Masscribes , a juried artist member of Wickford Art Association, member of the Warwick Center for the Arts and elected artist member of the Artists Cooperative Gallery of Westerly She teaches classes in traditional letterforms and design in her studio in East Greenwich and has served as mentor to several students from East Greenwich High School for their senior projects.
