Kim Boekelheide has been a lifelong woodworker, beginning with a traditional walnut desk he crafted in high school that earned him the Woodworking Prize in 1968. Today, he creates both commissioned and independent works, including tables, four-legged stools, lamps, cutting boards, clocks, and hand-turned ice cream scoops and bottle openers sold in consignment shops and at arts and crafts festivals. For Kim, a finely finished piece of wood offers both a tactile and visual experience. Grounded in traditional design, his work highlights the natural patina and grain of the wood, while occasionally incorporating subtle color through epoxy inlays or dyed wood. He finds great satisfaction in creating pieces that reflect skilled craftsmanship and in working with clients who value the artistry and care behind each handmade object.
